Rotherham Playground to Podium Ability Day
The search for future Olympians started at the Rotherham Playground to Podium day held at Aston Leisure Centre on the 18th January 2010. The Playground to Podium initiative is a national framework to identify and develop the ability of disabled players and athletes.
Twenty three children attended from mainstream schools including Wickersley, Thrybergh, Aston, Rawmarsh and Wingfield alongside six pupils from Kelford Special School. In the morning session there were several skill stations for pupils to participate in testing speed, hand-eye co-ordination, target throwing and agility.
In the afternoon session, there were sports specific stations including sports such as boccia, football and netball. There were some great performances from the participants who showed good flair and skill. Pupils from the events were invited to attend upcoming Playground to Podium competitions.
We would like to thank the leaders from Aston Comprehensive who were a great help in the organisation and running of this event.
