On Tuesday 6th October 2009 Rawmarsh School Sport Partnership were invited to attend the Young Ambassador Conference along with 4 young ambassadors and a teacher from the SSP.

The criteria from Youth Sport Trust required for each partnership in the country to select 2 new ambassadors for this year and also to bring the 2 ambassadors from last year's programme. The conference was organised to introduce the new ambassadors to the programme and to celebrate becoming Young Ambassadors – an initiative that uses the power of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to inspire more children to choose sport.

Each year until 2012, School Sport Partnerships across England will recruit two young people to take on the role of Young Ambassador for two years. In their first year, they work in their local communities championing sport and the ethos and values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement. In the second year they take on a mentoring role with the new Young Ambassador intake.

By the time the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games reach these shores in 2012, more than 5,000 young people from across the UK will have been through the Young Ambassador programme, which is managed by the Youth Sport Trust.

Half of all the Young Ambassadors, which this year will total 898, are selected due to their sporting talent, while the other half are chosen due to their outstanding commitment and ability as young leaders or volunteers.

The Young Ambassador programme was set up in response to London's promise in July 2005, when it was awarded the Olympics and Paralympics, to use the Games to inspire millions of young people to choose sport.

Since then, more than 2,500 Young Ambassadors across the country have been helping to increase sports participation among their peers and promote healthy lifestyles

The ambassadors for the Rawmarsh School Sport Partnership are amongst1,000 young people who are attending one of seven regional conferences as they begin their journey as Young Ambassadors.

In recognition of either their sporting achievements or commitment to leadership and volunteering Rawmarsh SSP selected Conrad Kirk and Emily Hart.
